Ex-soldier and new witch Viv has led the exiled Kazarans in the recovery of their city. Now victorious and saddled with pesky concepts like 'democracy' and the 'rule of law', she has prepared for the return of the humiliated Prince Lancer for he cannot afford to let her live. The enemy army is strong, but she is ready, and with the knowledge of earth's guerilla warfare, the power of friendship, and a genocidal golem, the foes will have much to contend with if they even want to reach the city.
After all, it's not a war crime if there are no war laws.
The Academy, the continent's best mage school overlooks the city of Helock, and this is where Viv is headed next to hopefully find a way to survive her own magic. The way will be fraught with danger, but with some diplomacy, and a sprinkle of murders, Viv has good odds of success. She just needs to survive pirates, slavers, kidnappers, rioters, assassins, and worst of all, plagiarism.
Viv is dying. Her mana, her strongest tool, is turning against her. She only has months left before it finishes devouring her, but not all is lost. The powerful resident archmage of the magical city of Helock promises her salvation. Viv merely needs to gather a few things and run a few errands. Simple, right? Yet the final price might be higher than she expected. Helock is a den of vipers. Forces move on the border while her paramour, Sidjin, is caught by his past. She will have to navigate those dangers if she wants to be reborn part elemental, the only way for her body to contain her magic.
It would be nice if she could graduate as well.
Kazar has fallen. All that is left of the border city is a caravan of refugees skirting the edge of the deadlands and the dangers that lurk there. The situation is grim but Viv is not done for. The Kazarans are alive and looking for revenge, and Viv? She has all the tools to provide it.
After crossing a magically radioactive desert and fending off a necromancer, Viv can aspire to some respite from all the horrors and foul-smelling undead. The border city of Kazar promises to be a haven where she can rest, learn how to use her new powers, and understand why she ended up in the fantastic world of Nyil. Arthur the pocket dragon and the genocidal golem Solfis are nice and all but she yearns for some human contact and look, there are plenty of humans around. With their own agenda.
Surely, nothing horrible will come to disturb her peace.
Surely.
