The Alchemist: Book 8
The more the alchemist throws himself into society, the more entangled he becomes. Influence brings more challenges, challenges bring enemies, and before long even murderers are wandering into his house, putting his loved ones in danger. The protections he so carefully arranged proved useless. Someone has found a way not just to slip past them, but to prod at the very fabric of his craft.
And that means he needs to get back to work. New research, fresh artifacts, stronger defenses.
Facing the challenges that the enemies throw at him will require all his efforts. Especially when there’s not just one enemy, but an entire organization playing against him. Every time he removes one piece from the chess board, another unexpectedly pops up to take its place.
Still, war doesn’t mean there’s no room for a little creation. Why wouldn’t he aim for something grandiose? Founding his own city sounds about right. A shining hub for the alchemy of tomorrow. The Emperor has signed off on that idea, and even give him a piece of land that no one else wants. After all, what looks like wasteland to others is a treasure trove to an alchemist.
If only he could find the time for it… That is one resource he seems to constantly be lacking. Enemies are always plotting, a new kind of gifted has appeared in the world causing a stir, and countless other challenges are queuing up just around the corner.
The young alchemist will have to fight for the right to live in peace.
