《射雕》中的人物个性单纯，郭靖诚朴厚重、黄蓉机智狡狯，读者容易印象深刻。这是中国传统小说和戏剧的特征，但不免缺乏人物内心世界的复杂性。大概由于人物性格单纯而情节热闹，所以《雕》比较得到欢迎，曾拍过粤语电影，在泰国上演过潮州剧的连台本戏，目前香港在拍电视片集；曾译成了暹罗文、越南文、马来文（印尼）；他人冒名演衍的小说如《江南七侠》、《九指神丐》等等种类也颇不少。但我自己，却觉得我后期的某几部小说似乎写得比《射雕》有了些进步。
